Foe In the Mirror Part 3 – The Black Dragon

"Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... hahah"

The chant trailed off; the final syllables were swallowed by the deep growl of distant thunder. The sky above the Moon Palace churned with swirling black clouds, their edges streaked with sickly green flashes of energy. The atmosphere crackled, thick with anticipation and malevolence.

Baboo and Squatt cowered in the shadows, their bulbous eyes darting nervously between the pulsating Green Chaos Crystal and their mistress. Squatt whimpered, clinging to Baboo, who whispered nonsensical reassurances more for his own comfort than for his companion's.

Finster, always one to focus when nervous, muttered under his breath as he shuffled through a collection of clay figurines. "An unstable artefact... this is perilous... highly volatile. But, oh, how Her Majesty does enjoy flirting with disaster." His long fingers worked deftly despite the tremor in his hands, his muttering punctuated by sharp glances toward the ritual.

Only Goldar and Scorpina stood their ground, their expressions a mix of awe and grim determination. Goldar's massive wings flared briefly as he adjusted his stance, the heavy clang of his armour echoing in the chamber. Scorpina's narrowed eyes reflected the eerie glow of the crystal, her lips curling into a subtle smirk. "Rita never does anything halfway," she muttered, her voice tinged with admiration and unease.

At the centre of the room, Rita Repulsa stood tall, her staff raised high above the Green Chaos Crystal. The artefact hovered in place, spinning slowly, its surface a swirling storm of green and black energy. The crystal pulsed in time with Rita's chant, each syllable driving the chaotic energy to new heights.

The Green Chaos Crystal had grown exponentially in power. Its first activation was a test- a tool to sow discord among the Power Rangers. Its second use had proven its potential when it gave Scorpina the means to briefly control one of the Rangers' Zords. Though those plans had failed, the failures had not been in vain. Each attempt had charged the crystal further, feeding it with energy stolen from the Morphin Grid and the fractured psyche of its victim, Tommy.

Now, the crystal's energy had reached a dangerous zenith. It thrummed with chaotic power, its influence extending far beyond Tommy. Rita had meticulously avoided allowing the artefact to draw on her own magic, knowing the crystal's ravenous nature. However, the emotions and weaknesses of those around Tommy, particularly the Power Rangers, were an abundant fuel source.

The crystal magnified every flicker of doubt, anger, or fear. Its maddening field of chaos amplified secrets and unspoken grievances, forcing the Rangers to confront their buried tensions. The fractures in their unity grew deeper with each passing moment.

At last, Rita lowered her staff, her eyes glowing with satisfaction. The crystal spun faster, a whirl of blinding light and energy, before stabilizing into a steady, ominous glow. "Perfect," she whispered, her voice cutting through the charged air.

Turning sharply, Rita fixed her gaze on Finster. The diminutive creature flinched under her piercing glare but quickly composed himself, bowing deeply.

"Finster," she commanded, her tone laced with both authority and triumph, "I need a monster."

Finster straightened, his nervous muttering replaced with focused efficiency. "Yes, my Queen. A monster worthy of the crystal's newfound power." He shuffled to his workbench, pulling out a slab of clay already marked with intricate runes.

As he began shaping the clay with his tools, Finster's mind raced. The monster would need to harness the energy of the Green Chaos Crystal without fracturing under immense strain. The crystal's power was volatile, a force that could overwhelm anything unworthy or unprepared. The creature must be more than strong -- it must be a vessel capable of enduring the chaos and directing it with precision. It would need to be cunning, destructive, and relentless -- an embodiment of chaos itself.

Finster paused his work, tapping his chin thoughtfully as the image of the perfect creature began to form in his mind. "Ah, yes," he muttered, his voice gaining confidence. "A monster with unstoppable strength and resilience. Something that can bulldoze through their defences -- quite literally."

He began moulding the clay into shape, its bulky form taking on the head of a bull, complete with curved horns that radiated menace. For its lower body, he fashioned caterpillar treads, giving the beast the mobility to crush everything in its path. And for its right arm, he crafted a massive dozer shovel, sharp and imposing, a tool of both destruction and intimidation.

"A name," Finster mused aloud as he stepped back to admire his work. The combination of raw, brutish power and industrial efficiency brought a grin to his face. "Bullzer," he declared, the name rolling off his tongue with satisfaction. "Yes, Bullzer will be the one to bring chaos and ruin to the Rangers."

Goldar peered over Finster's shoulder and grunted approvingly. "Looks strong enough. Let's hope it lives up to its name."

"Oh, it will," Finster replied with a sly grin, his confidence growing as he continued refining the details. "Bullzer will channel the power of the Green Chaos Crystal without breaking under the strain. It will crush everything in its path, leaving the Power Rangers helpless in the rubble."

Rita Repulsa stepped forward, her dark energy radiating with an intensity that made even Goldar step aside. In her hand, she held a jagged shard of the Green Chaos Crystal, its surface pulsing with an otherworldly light.

"This," she said, holding the shard up for all to see, "is what will give Bullzer the edge it needs. It contains a fragment of the Chaos Crystal's power -- a fragment of madness itself. With this, your monster will not just withstand the strain; it will thrive on it."

Finster bowed his head. "An inspired decision, my Queen. Bullzer will be invincible with such a gift."

Rita extended the shard to Finster, her smile cold and calculating. "Insert it into the creature's chest. Let it become a part of its very essence."

Finster reverently took the shard, carefully embedding it into the chest of the clay monster. As the fragment merged with the material, the monster's form glowed briefly with a sinister green light, the clay seeming to shudder as if awakening to life.

"It is done," Finster said, his voice a mix of pride and apprehension.

Rita nodded, her gaze lingering on the monster. "Excellent. Bullzer will destroy the Power Rangers and prove once and for all that chaos is supreme. Prepare it for battle, Finster."

"Yes, my Queen," Finster replied, already moving to complete the final preparations.

Rita turned and strode away, her laughter echoing through the chamber. "Do-do-ra-do-ra… Do-do-do-ra-do-ra…"

The five Power Rangers stood on a rocky outcrop overlooking the outskirts of Angel Grove. Below them, chaos unfolded as Bullzer rampaged through a construction site. The monster's caterpillar treads churned the ground into a dusty mess, its dozer shovel arm effortlessly flipping vehicles and debris as it advanced. Workers fled in panic; their hard hats abandoned as they scattered.

"Man, look at the size of this thing!" Jason exclaimed, gripping his Power Sword tightly.

"Not just the size," Billy noted, studying Bullzer's movements. "That thing's tearing through reinforced steel beams like they're cardboard. Its strength is off the charts."

"Then let's take it down!" Kimberly shouted, drawing her Power Bow.

The team leapt into action, somersaulting from the cliff and landing gracefully amidst the destruction.

"Hey, Bullzer!" Jason shouted, pointing his sword at the beast. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"

Bullzer turned its massive head toward them, its glowing green eyes narrowing. "Rangers," it bellowed its voice a guttural growl. "You're just in time to be flattened!"

The battle began with Bullzer charging forward, its treads chewing up the ground as it barreled toward the Rangers. Jason and Trini met the charge head-on, their weapons clashing against Bullzer's dozer arm. Sparks flew as the beast swung its massive shovel in a wide arc, forcing the two to backflip out of range.

"Careful!" Billy warned, firing his Power Lance in staff form at Bullzer's treads. The strike hit true, but the monster barely flinched, its armoured plating absorbing the impact.

"Nice try, Blue Ranger!" Bullzer taunted. It countered by spinning on its treads, its dozer arm scooping up a mound of rubble and hurling it at the Rangers.

"Look out!" Kimberly shouted, using her Power Bow to shoot arrows that shattered the larger chunks of debris. The smaller pieces rained down, forcing the Rangers to scatter.

Zack flipped back to his feet, breathing heavily. "We need Tommy for this! Where is he? Dude's missing again, right when we need him!"

Jason grimaced but didn't reply. He tightened his grip on his Power Sword, stepping forward. "We'll just have to handle it without him. Rangers, focus on the legs! If we can immobilize it, we've got a chance!"

"Right!" the others replied in unison.

Trini moved in low, using her Power Daggers to slash at Bullzer's treads. Sparks erupted as her strikes made contact, but the monster lashed out with its shovel arm, forcing her to retreat. Kimberly followed up by firing an arrow directly at Bullzer's chest, but the shot seemed to bounce off harmlessly.

"It's like this thing's armour is absorbing everything we throw at it!" Kimberly shouted, frustration creeping into her voice.

Bullzer roared in defiance, raising its dozer arm. "You'll regret that!" With a sweep of its shovel, it sent a wave of rubble cascading toward the Rangers.

Billy vaulted over the debris, using his Power Lance to pole vault closer to the monster. "Jason, now!" he called.

Jason leapt in, Power Sword glowing with energy as he aimed a slash at Bullzer's chest. But the monster anticipated the move, catching the sword with its massive shovel arm and pushing Jason back.

"This thing's too strong!" Trini shouted, regrouping with the others.

Jason clenched his fists. "We've faced tougher monsters before. We can do this!"

The Rangers assembled, their weapons gleaming as they formed the Power Blaster. The combined weapon hummed with energy, and the Rangers took aim at Bullzer.

"Let's finish this!" Jason commanded.

"Fire!" the team shouted in unison, unleashing a powerful blast of energy. The shot streaked through the air, hitting Bullzer square in the chest. The impact sent the monster staggering, green energy arcing wildly from its body.

"No!" Bullzer bellowed, its voice fading as its body destabilised. The monster exploded in a fiery blast, leaving only a smouldering crater behind.

The Rangers lowered their weapons, breathing heavily as the dust settled.

"Another one down," Kimberly said, wiping her brow.

"But this was tougher than usual," Billy noted. "Something about that monster felt... different."

Zack nodded. "And we need to talk to Tommy. If he doesn't get his head in the game soon, we might not be so lucky next time."

The team exchanged weary glances before teleporting back to the Command Center, knowing that there would be another unpleasant conversation ahead.

Rita Repulsa stood before her balcony, her telescope trained on the smouldering remains of Bullzer below. The Rangers had triumphed, as they usually did, but instead of the expected tantrum, Rita's expression held an unsettling calm.

Goldar, standing near the entrance to the chamber, shifted uneasily. He exchanged a glance with Scorpina, who merely shrugged. Neither dared speak without permission.

"I must admit," Rita said at last, turning from the telescope, "the Power Rangers are persistent little gnats. But even gnats can't keep up forever."

Her voice was uncharacteristically measured, carrying an air of cold calculation rather than her trademark shrieks. She reached into the folds of her robe, withdrawing a jagged shard of the Green Chaos Crystal. Its faint green glow pulsed with an eerie rhythm.

"Finster!" Rita called; her voice was sharp, her attention focussed on the bigger plan. Losing a small piece was nothing when it allowed her to gain position on a greater target.

The diminutive monster maker scurried forward from his workbench, where he had been carefully assembling clay components for his next creation. "Yes, my queen?" he said, bowing deeply, though his voice betrayed his nervousness.

Rita tossed the shard to him with a lazy flick of her wrist. Finster barely caught it, fumbling with the glowing fragment as though it burned his hands.

"Start on the next one," she ordered, her tone as casual as if she were discussing the weather. "Make it stronger, more relentless. The Rangers shouldn't have a moment to breathe."

Finster swallowed hard, clutching the shard to his chest. "O-of course, my queen. I'll get started immediately." He turned and hurried back to his workbench, casting a quick, worried glance at Baboo and Squatt as he passed.

The two henchmen huddled in the corner, whispering furiously.

"She's not even angry," Baboo muttered, his long fingers tapping nervously against his chin.

"That's what's scary," Squatt replied, wringing his stubby hands. "Usually, she'd be yelling and throwing stuff. But this... this is weird."

Goldar finally stepped forward, his golden armour clinking softly. "My Empress," he ventured cautiously, his gravelly voice low, "is there... a new strategy I should know about?"

Rita turned to him, her sharp eyes narrowing. For a moment, Goldar thought she might unleash her wrath, but instead, she smiled -- a chilling, knowing smile.

"All in good time, Goldar," she said cryptically. "Now, leave me. All of you. I need to prepare."

The minions shuffled out of the room, none daring to press her further. Even Scorpina, usually bold, offered only a passing glance before exiting.

Once alone, Rita moved to the altar where the Green Chaos Crystal hovered, brighter and more vibrant than ever. The energy within it crackled and pulsed, casting an eerie glow across her face. She raised her staff and began to chant once more, her voice low and rhythmic:

"Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Ban..."

The energy from the crystal surged, the green glow intensifying and casting the chamber in flickering shadows. Rita's eyes shone with malevolent delight as she channelled the dark power, her plans taking shape with every word.

The citizens of Rome cowered in their shelter as the Dinozords clashed with Finster's latest monstrosity, The Collosus monster, a towering stone colossus resembling an ancient gladiator. Its torso was adorned with cracks that glowed faintly with molten energy, and its massive spiked shield smashed through the ancient streets as it battled the Dinozords.

The Collosus monster swung its colossal sword, slicing through buildings as if they were made of paper. The Tyrannosaurus Dinozord narrowly dodged the strike, Jason's voice crackling through the comms.

"We're not making any progress like this," Jason said, his voice strained. "We need a plan. Everyone, switch to Formation -- go Plan Seven!"

The Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, and Saber-Tooth Tiger Dinozords shifted positions. The Mastodon moved to anchor the group, the Triceratops aimed its cannons to the side for a flanking shot, and the Saber-Tooth Tiger charged forward, its claws sparking against the Collosus monster's shield. The Dragonzord, however, remained stationary.

"Tommy, move into position!" Jason shouted.

"What position?" Tommy replied over the comms, his tone frustrated. "I don't know this formation!"

The Dragonzord stomped forward, its missile fingers firing at the Collosus monster. The attack struck true, but in the chaos, the Dragonzord inadvertently blocked the Saber-Tooth Tiger's path, forcing Trini to brake hard.

"Tommy! You're in my way!" Trini yelled.

"Sorry, I'm trying!" Tommy replied, frantically manipulating the Dragonzord's controls.

The Collosus monster took advantage of the confusion, smashing its sword into the Mastodon and sending it reeling. The Rangers scrambled to regroup.

"Jason," Zack called out, his tone sharp, "we're blowing it. The plan's toast!"

Jason gritted his teeth. "Abort Plan Seven! Everyone regroup and prepare for Dragon Megazord!"

The Dinozords shifted out of formation, retreating as the Collosus monster roared in triumph. Jason's voice cut through the comms.

"Alright, let's bring it together. Tommy, focus this time. Let's form Dragon Megazord!"

The Dinozords and Dragonzord began their combination sequence. The Mastodon formed a shield, attaching to the Dragonzord's arm, while the Triceratops and Saber-Tooth Tiger formed its legs. The Pterodactyl soared above, its wingspan expanding as it locked into place on the back to complete the transformation. The Dragon Megazord stood tall, armed with its drill-tipped spear.

The Collosus monster didn't hesitate, charging forward with its sword raised. The Dragon Megazord parried the strike, pushing back with its spear. Explosions erupted as the two titans exchanged blows.

In the cockpit, the tension was palpable. Zack's voice broke through, edged with frustration.

"This wouldn't have happened if someone knew what they were doing."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Tommy snapped.

"You know what I mean!" Zack replied. "First, you mess up Plan Seven, and now -- "

"Enough!" Jason barked, cutting off the argument. "We don't have time for this. Focus on the fight!"

The Collosus monster unleashed a barrage of energy blasts from its glowing cracks, forcing the Rangers to dodge. The Dragon Megazord retaliated with its spear, driving the monster back step by step.

"Hold together, team," Jason said. "We can still win this!"

Despite their earlier missteps, the Rangers rallied. The Dragon Megazord moved with precision, dodging the Collosus monster's strikes and delivering devastating counterattacks. Finally, Jason called out the finishing command.

"Power Staff, full power!"

The drill spear spun to life, piercing through the Collosus monster's molten chest. With a final, ear-splitting roar, the monster exploded, scattering debris across the battlefield.

As the smoke cleared, the Rangers let out a collective breath of relief.

"Nice work, team," Jason said, though his voice carried a hint of strain.

Zack muttered something under his breath, his eyes fixed on Tommy. But before anyone could address the lingering tension, Jason spoke again.

"Let's head back to the Command Center. Zordon will want a full report."

The Dragon Megazord stood silently for a moment, victorious but emblematic of a team still finding its balance.

The throne room of Rita's Moon Palace resonated with her shrill, triumphant laughter. The scene of destruction on Earth played out in the scrying orb before her, showing the smoking remains of The Collosus as it crumbled. She leaned forward, her staff resting against her arm, her eyes glinting with satisfaction.

"Oh, what a performance!" Rita exclaimed, clapping her hands mockingly. "They barely managed to scrape by this time. And the Dragonzord -- what a glorious mess."

Her henchmen exchanged uneasy glances. Baboo and Squatt fidgeted, their expressions betraying their confusion. Finster, though quieter, kept a careful eye on Rita, his unease apparent. Goldar shifted his weight but said nothing, his usual bravado muted.

It was Scorpina who first noticed it -- a faint flash of green in Rita's palm as she clenched her hand briefly, her fingers curling around some unseen object. The flash disappeared as quickly as it came when Rita slipped her hand into the folds of her robe, hiding whatever she held.

"Uh… Mistress Rita," Finster ventured cautiously, "you seem rather… pleased. I must say, it's refreshing to see you in such good spirits after… well, a defeat."

"Defeat?" Rita snapped, her smile vanishing momentarily before returning. "You call that a defeat, Finster? Look again! The Zords -- those blasted mechanical nuisances -- are battered and bruised. The Dragonzord? Practically handed itself to the monster!"

Finster nodded hesitantly, daring to glance at the orb. The battle had indeed left the Rangers' Zords visibly damaged, and the Dragonzord's earlier hesitation had made it an easy target in the chaos.

Rita turned to Finster, her expression suddenly sharp with intent. "You've done well, Finster. But we're just getting started. I want the next monster to ensure the Dragonzord can't aid the Rangers. Find a way to disrupt their connection or render it useless. Whatever it takes."

As Finster nodded obediently, she reached into her robes and pulled out not one but two shards of glowing green crystal. The sight made the henchmen shiver, though none dared voice their concerns. Rita handed the shards to Finster, her grin widening.

"Take these," she ordered. "You've done good work with the others, but this time, I want something special. Something that will put an end to their meddling for good. Now, get started!"

Finster accepted the shards with trembling hands, bowing slightly. "As you command, my queen."

Rita turned away; her attention drawn back to the green Chaos Crystal glowing ominously in the corner of the room. Its brilliance seemed even more vivid, casting eerie shadows on the walls. As she approached, she resumed her chant, her voice a haunting melody that reverberated through the palace.

"Do-do-ra-do-ra… Do-do-do-ra-do-ra… Do-do-ra-ra… Do-do-ra-ra…"

Her words blended into the oppressive atmosphere, leaving her minions in silent apprehension. They could only watch as Rita continued her work, her gaze fixed on the crystal as if it were the key to all her schemes.

Rita sat hunched over, her gaze fixed on the Green Chaos Crystal that pulsed steadily on the pedestal before her. The eerie green glow illuminated her face in the gloom of her chambers, casting long shadows that seemed to stretch with the rhythm of her chant. Her fingers moved slowly, tracing the intricate patterns etched into the surface of the crystal as she continued her ritual, the words of power slipping from her lips in a cadence that felt as if they were pulling the very fabric of the universe into alignment.

"Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do-ra-ra..."

With each repetition, the crystal grew stronger, its pulse quickening in response to her words. She could feel the swell of dark energy rising within it -- something primal, something old as if the crystal itself were alive and aware. Her work was progressing far beyond anything she had anticipated. The Rangers, in their endless battles and bickering, were feeding the crystal's power, unknowingly giving her the means to control them. She could feel their doubts and frustrations intensifying, but more than that, she could sense their reluctance to address the cracks forming in their unity.

The Rangers had never been as tight-knit as they appeared. Their failure to address their differences was obvious to Rita, even if they couldn't see it themselves. They were weak in their silence, and that weakness was beginning to show in their battles. Each attack she had sent them was calculated, meant to destabilize them both physically and mentally. Each failure, each moment of tension, added fuel to the Green Chaos Crystal, pushing it closer to its full potential.

She closed her eyes briefly, replaying the series of events in her mind. The failed monster attacks, the tense confrontations, the lingering failures of the Rangers to truly defeat her forces -- everything had been leading to this. The Zords had barely escaped unscathed during their last clash, and she could already tell the Rangers were on the edge of frustration. The Green Chaos Crystal was working on them now, magnifying their inner doubts, amplifying their secret fears and insecurities, all of which had started to form like cracks in the foundation of their team.

Rita smirked to herself. The cracks were widening... and soon, they would shatter completely.

She thought back to the most recent failed monster -- Collosus, the hulking behemoth that Finster had so carefully crafted. It had been powerful, yes, but not powerful enough. It had not been enough to bring down the Rangers, and yet Rita found herself pleased by the outcome. The Zords had taken a beating, and Dragonzord -- Tommy's Zord -- had stood still in the confusion, inadvertently leaving itself exposed.

It was all part of the plan, she mused. They had underestimated the power of chaos, and now the crystal was stronger for it.

But it wasn't just Collosus that Rita had orchestrated. She had commissioned a number of other monsters that had not been unleashed, ones designed to test and break the Rangers in different ways. There had been one, a serpentine creature called Toxigon, which was meant to infect the Zords with a slow-draining poison. Another, Hexafury, a six-armed warrior, was designed to outmanoeuvre the Rangers by exploiting their tendency to form predictable attack patterns. Rita's mind drifted briefly to those failed attempts, smiling at the thought of how close her enemies had come to defeat.

Still, none of those attacks had brought her the victory she craved. It had always been the same -- she attacked, the Rangers fought back, and though there was some damage, they would always manage to win. But that was before the crystal's power had begun to seep into their minds.

Rita's lips curled into a sly smile. And it's about to break them.

Tommy's continued doubt was the key -- he was close, so close to fully realizing his true potential, but his lack of trust in the Rangers, his reluctance to lean on them when he needed it most, had kept him from fully embracing his place within the team. The others, too, were complicit in their silence. She could almost hear the words unspoken between them, the things they would never say aloud. Zack's unease, Kimberly's fleeting moments of hesitation, and even Jason's subtle frustrations with Tommy's growing pains. They weren't perfect, and Rita knew that, for all their power, their emotional instability made them vulnerable.

Her thoughts lingered on Zack. His face appeared unbidden in her mind -- a familiar, yet unsettling presence. Rita couldn't help but smirk as she reflected on him. Zack, so full of guilt and secrets -- his own feelings toward Tommy only serve to sour what could be an easy reconciliation between them.

She could feel the weight of Zack's unresolved emotions, his internal conflict -- he had accepted Tommy as a teammate, but in truth, the black Ranger's feelings of being abandoned by his friend and by the team had festered, poisoned by his fear that Tommy would never truly be part of their group. Zack's deep-rooted guilt over that fear was festering like a disease in his heart, and Rita revelled in the knowledge that this was precisely what had been driving the Rangers apart. As long as Zack kept his distance, and refused to address his doubts, the division would remain.

"Yes, Zack," she muttered softly to herself. "Your guilt is making it worse. And I'm only too happy to exploit it."

The Green Chaos Crystal pulsed brighter in response as if agreeing with her assessment. She was close -- closer than she'd ever been. The next attack would bring the crystal to its full power, and once that happened, she knew she could destroy the Rangers once and for all. And then the world will be mine.

She barely heard the faint voice that seemed to whisper in the shadows. It was there again, the same disembodied voice, offering praise and subtle promise.

"Rita," it spoke, smooth and velvety, almost soothing, "you've done well. Your work is progressing nicely. The chaos is thickening. You will break them. I can feel it."

Rita's lips curled into a grin. "Thank you," she responded, her voice laced with a self-satisfied edge. "But I'm not done yet. Not by a long shot."

"Indeed," the voice replied, its tone now carrying an undertone of something darker, something far more foreboding. "And once the next attack is over, I will be ready. Then, I will show you the true power of our alliance."

Rita allowed herself a small chuckle, her eyes flashing with renewed intensity. "Excellent. I'm ready. Let's finish this."

Her hand, instinctively, moved toward the Green Chaos Crystal again, her fingers brushing over the surface, feeling the now-sentient energy coursing through it. Her chant resumed, low but resonant, her voice mixing with the growing hum of the crystal's power.

"Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do..."

The words repeated, a cadence of dark power growing ever stronger, as Rita's mind turned to the next phase of her plan. With each chant, the crystal's energy reached deeper into the hearts of the Rangers, and soon, with a final push, she would tear their unity apart, piece by piece. She felt its power surge through her as she continued her incantation, her mind already anticipating the chaos to come. Soon, Rangers... soon you will be mine.

Two days later

The Command Center was filled with a heated argument, voices raised as frustration and tension between the Rangers boiled over. The air crackled with barely contained anger, the usual teamwork and camaraderie replaced by sharp accusations and quick, biting words.

Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra...

"Why didn't Dragonzord show up?" Kimberly's voice was tight with frustration, the last remnants of the plant monster still fresh in her mind. "We needed him, and once again, he's nowhere to be found!"

Tommy stood in the middle of the room, his jaw clenched, trying to keep his composure. "I told you, Scorpina and her eel monsters attacked Dragonzord before I could even get to him. It wasn't my fault!"

"You keep saying that" Zack shot back, "but it's always Dragonzord that's missing when we need him! It's like we're always left trying to pick up the pieces without him."

Jason's voice cut through the tension like a sharp blade. "Enough, Zack!" His tone was firm, and he was the leader in taking charge. "We're all frustrated but blaming each other won't help. We must focus on the bigger picture."

Kimberly folded her arms, shaking her head. "We've been focusing on the bigger picture, Jason, but we're running out of time. We can't keep having Dragonzord fail us. It's starting to feel like we're fighting alone."

Billy, standing slightly to the side, nervously adjusted his glasses, glancing between the team members. "Listen, we're all on edge. But we're not alone. We've got our Zords, and we've got each other. And once I finish with the repairs, Dragonzord will be ready again."

"Yeah, if he can make it there in time," Kimberly muttered under her breath, her frustration barely contained.

"Kimberly," Jason warned, his voice stern. "This is not the time for this."

Alpha's voice suddenly crackled from the corner of the room, breaking through the escalating argument. "Zordon! Zordon! I'm detecting a large rise in energy from the moon! Something big is coming!" His voice was panicked, laced with urgency.

Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do-ra-r

"Not now, Alpha," Zack muttered, running a hand through his hair. "Can't we just get a break?"

"We don't have time for this," Billy said quickly, pushing his glasses back up his nose. "If something's coming, we need to prepare."

Zordon's voice came through the Command Center's speakers, firm and calm despite the growing tension. "Rangers, Alpha is right. There is a large energy surge coming from the moon. I suggest you prepare yourselves. We are no longer fighting the monsters Rita sends -- we are facing something much more dangerous."

Tommy's mind raced, his fists clenched as he thought about the failures of Dragonzord and the growing doubts among his team. "It's Scorpina, I'm sure of it," he said, his voice low but heavy with conviction. "She's been targeting Dragonzord, preventing him from getting to us. What's that singing?"

"I agree," Zordon's voice confirmed, adding to the tension. "Scorpina's interference has put the Dragonzord at risk, and it is not prepared for battle."

Billy stepped forward, nodding determinedly. "I'll get to work on the repairs immediately. Dragonzord will be ready to fight once I finish with the others."

But before anyone could respond, the entire Command Center jolted. The lights flickered wildly as the building shook violently, and the ground beneath them seemed to quake. The Rangers were knocked off balance, their arguments and frustrations instantly forgotten as they scrambled to stay on their feet.

"What was that?" Jason shouted, his eyes wide with alarm. The shaking intensified, the room rattling with each passing second.

DO-DO-RA-DO-RA... DO-DO-DO-RA-DO-RA... DO-DO-RA-RA... DO-DO-RA-R! HAHAHAHAHA!

"Zordon! What's happening?" Kimberly cried, her voice laced with panic.

Alpha, his voice quivering, shouted over the rising chaos. "I'm detecting massive energy spikes -- coming from the moon! It's -- It's -- !"

Before Alpha could finish his sentence, a deafening explosion erupted from the speakers, sending a shockwave through the Command Center. Sparks flew from the consoles, and the lights flickered out completely, leaving the room in utter darkness. A loud, terrifying silence filled the air, broken only by the crackling of the damaged systems.

Then, a low, menacing growl rumbled through the remains of the Command Center, vibrating the very walls. A massive shadow loomed over them, casting an eerie darkness across the already-destroyed room. The Rangers could barely make out the shape of something colossal, its presence filling the space like a suffocating force. The air seemed to thrum with the intensity of its power.

Tommy's breath caught in his throat, his eyes wide as he stared at the dark figure taking shape before him. "What the hell is that?"

From the shadows, the creature slowly emerged. It was a massive, black-scaled dragon -- its body large and formidable, with eyes glowing a blood-red hue. The creature's growl echoed through the Command Center, a sound filled with ancient malice.

The Black Dragon's voice, low and gravely, broke through the oppressive silence. "You've done well to make it this far, Rangers. But your journey ends here."

Zack, still reeling from the blast, muttered, "What is that thing?"

"I am the Black Dragon," the beast declared, its eyes burning with a sinister glow. "I was not born of Rita's command. I am something far more powerful. And now, you will fall before me."

The Rangers instinctively took up defensive stances, their weapons ready, though they knew, deep down, that this was no ordinary monster. "What do you want?" Jason demanded, trying to keep his voice steady despite the looming dread.

The Black Dragon's lips curled into a twisted smile. "What I want is simple. I want you all to surrender. But I know that's not in your nature. You never give up. And that's exactly why I will destroy you."

The Black Dragon raised its claws, preparing to strike. But before they could react, a surge of energy shot through the air, a second blast that tore through the remaining equipment in the Command Center. Sparks erupted, and Alpha's voice was abruptly silenced, leaving only static where his panic-stricken cries had been moments before.

The Black Dragon's eyes gleamed as it watched the destruction unfold. "I do not require the pleasantries of battle," it continued, stepping closer, its massive form now looming over the group. "I will crush you all beneath my claws."

As the Black Dragon shrank down, its form folding into a more manageable size, it stepped forward, the tension thick in the air. The Rangers stepped back, but they knew there was no retreat now. They had no choice but to face this new threat, a threat unlike anything they had encountered before.

"You will never stop me," the Black Dragon hissed, its voice laced with power and venom. "You are weak. You are nothing before me."

The Rangers stood tall, weapons at the ready, but Tommy felt a cold dread creeping into his bones. This was different. This monster wasn't just another creation of Rita's -- it was something far darker, more dangerous. The battle was about to get much harder.

On the moon, Rita stood in her darkened lair, her fingers wrapped tightly around the now-dimmed Green Chaos Crystal. The once vibrant, pulsing energy that had surged through the artefact had been drained in a single, destructive blast. Its vast power had torn through Zordon's protective shields, and, with a flick of the crystal, had opened a rift in the dimensional barrier, bringing forth the Black Dragon exactly where Rita had needed him.

She watched the confrontation in the Command Center unfold on a large, floating screen. Her eyes glittered with a dark, satisfied gleam as the Black Dragon wreaked havoc on the Rangers. His immense power was evident in every swing of his claws and every surge of energy that shattered the Command Center's defences. A wave of his hand brought down entire systems, sparks flying as the technology was torn apart like paper. His monstrous presence radiated pure malice, and Rita felt a surge of pride in her ally's ferocity.

"Yes, that's it," she murmured to herself, a smile curling at her lips as the Black Dragon tore through the Command Center. "Crush them. Show them what true power feels like."

Her henchmen, Baboo, Squatt, and Finster, stood in the background, glancing nervously between each other. They had never seen Rita quite so satisfied amid destruction before. She had always been quick to rant, to growl and scream when things went wrong. But now? She was calm, collected, and utterly enthralled by the chaos unfolding on the screen before her.

"The Rangers are done for," Rita said, her voice smooth with delight. "And once they are, there will be no need for us to stay in this miserable lair any longer."

She looked down at the Green Chaos Crystal, now dull in her palm, its power nearly spent. With a soft, wicked chuckle, Rita raised her gaze back to the screen, where the Black Dragon continued to ravage the remains of the Command Center. His monstrous form now loomed over the wreckage, surveying the destruction, like a predator inspecting its kill.

"The Command Center will make a nice throne room," Rita mused aloud, her voice laced with triumph. "Yes, it'll be perfect for me. The power of the Rangers' base will serve me well."

Turning to her henchmen, Rita's smile grew more wicked, her eyes gleaming with dark amusement. "Pack up. We're moving house. Our new base of operations will be inside the heart of the Rangers' destruction."

Baboo blinked in confusion. "Moving? But -- "

"Don't question me!" Rita snapped, her eyes flashing dangerously. "This is the best time to strike. Once I take over their base, we'll have everything we need. And the Rangers will have nothing left."

The trio exchanged wary glances, but no one dared challenge Rita. With a dismissive flick of her hand, she turned away from them and moved to the far side of the room, where the faint remnants of the Green Chaos Crystal still glowed dimly in her palm. She held it close to her chest, feeling the last remnants of its dark energy as she prepared herself for the final step.

Rita's lips parted, the familiar chant flowing from her mouth as she once again began to channel the power from within the crystal, gathering what little remained. The chant was calm now, smooth and methodical, as she spoke in a language older than time itself.

Her voice echoed through the empty, cold corridors of her moon lair, blending with the sounds of distant thunder. "Do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-do-ra-do-ra... Do-do-ra-ra... Do-do-ra-ra…"

The power of the Green Chaos Crystal may have been depleted, but Rita knew its effects would soon be felt in ways far more profound. And with the Black Dragon at her side and the Command Center in her grasp, she would be unstoppable.

Her smile grew as she continued to chant, the darkness around her deepening, and a sense of inevitable victory surrounding her.

"Power is mine," she whispered, eyes gleaming with malicious intent. "And nothing will stop me now."

And in a faraway place, a figure clutching an almost identical Green Chaos Crystal grinned at the recent turn of events. The door had been opened, the Black Dragon had stepped across and in a single battle had taken the Command Center and their allies away. Now with the Dragonzord out of commission and Rangers' doubts at an all-time high, he would conquer the Earth in the name of Rita Repulsa. And once that was done and the debt he felt to her was repaid... nothing would stop him.
