The Adventures Of Sky Force

by Shadow Ranger

An ill-advised experiment to draw upon a source of extra-dimensional energy causes the Earth to break the dimensional barriers to the Vyram home. In retaliation for the invasion and having recognised Earth as a viable location for their expanding empire, the Vyram chose to annexe Earth as the first part of their expansion into a new galaxy.
To protect the planet the Sky Watch organisation recruited five humans possessing high levels or Birdionic Radiation to become Sky Force Rangers.

SKY FORCE RANGERS

Mark Harris

Mark Harris Red Hawk Ranger Red Hawk Ranger (Armoured)

Mark's military career ended the day the Vyram arrived. He was a part of Sky Watch, assigned to patrolling the perimeter of the exclusion zone set up for the experiment. When the Vyram invaded, Mark witnessed their arrival and the carnage they unleashed. His wingman disappeared during the incident while Mark was exposed to a massive surge of Birdionic Radiation. Mark crashed his fighter jet during the incident and resigned from the military. He was later tracked down by Chief Anderson and convinced to return to duty as the leader of the Sky Force Rangers.

Mark is perhaps the most idealistic of the Rangers. Before the Vyram he was a considered a good junior officer. Unfortunately for the service that failed to offer support to their personnel in the aftermath of the invasion, preferring to cover up the incident, Mark has lost much of his respect for the chain of command. This has even led to him siding with Joe when overbearing Sky Watch commanders attempt to assert their authority.

Joseph Thax (Joe)

Joseph Thax Black Condor Ranger Black Condor Ranger (Armoured)

At the time of the Vyram invasion, Joseph Thax was involved in an illegal street race taking place on the highway beneath the experiment. In the aftermath of the dimensional breach, Joe's rival racers were seemingly destroyed by the Vyram energy while Joe not only survived, but managed to absorb a high level of what Dr Keene dubbed Birdionic Radiation. When it came time to create the Sky Force Rangers, the military tracked down Joe as one of the highest levels of Birdionic radiation on the planet. He politely told them where they could stick their demand that he enrol in the Sky Force program. When they attempted to enlist him, he broke their limbs. Chief Anderson later tracked him down to a federal prison and offered him a deal: join the Sky Force Rangers or sit in prison for twenty years. Joe chose the later, but promised Anderson he would make him regret recruiting him.

Since his recruitment Joe has continued to engage in illegal street racing and street fighting.

Joe has a close friendship with Kelly and is a bad influence on Mickey. He is often at odds with Mark over his attitude.

Kelly Jenner

A girl raised with everything she could ever want, Kelly was enjoying running her small business on her latest "Daddy's" dollar when the Vyram attacked. Kelly was exposed to a potentially lethal level of Birdionic Radiation. She survived but her bar was destroyed in the carnage that followed and her "Daddy" perished in the aftermath. Left with no money, no business and the possiblilty she might have to do an honest day's work, Kelly accepted Chief Anderson's offer to join the Sky Force Rangers. She has been meticulous in invoicing Sky Watch for all activities relating her duties and for trips to the salon to repair helmet hair.

Mickey Dugan

Mickey was a homeless 14 year old at the time the Vyram invaded Earth. He was exposed to a massive dose of Birdionic Radiation and survived. His retention of that energy caused him to age prematurely while his mind remained that of a juvenile. Upon release from hospital he wa placed in a children's shelter until he was approached by Chief Anderson. During a difficult negotiation that led Mickey to somehow get everything he wanted, he was enrolled into the Sky Force Rangers as their youngest member.

Oliver "Tiny" Harper

Oliver was going nowhere in life when he was exposed to Birdionic Radiation. His compatibility to use the power developed by Sky Watch and become a Sky Force Ranger would be a relief to both his wallet and his appetite.

Chief Anderson notes: Don't let his size fool you; Tiny is extremely fast and agile due to his absorption of Birdionic Radiation. He is also the strongest of the Sky Force Rangers. He is a human tank capable of ploughing his way through Vyram. An unstoppable force... as long as you can wake him up.

SKY WATCH

By the middle of the Twentieth Century, Earth had faced multiple invasions by hostile aliens. Sky Watch was founded to watch and protect the Earth from extraterrestial threats. It was originally a part of the TASKFORCE project with links to other organisations. In 1986 Sky Watch was stepped down as the protection of Earth was handed over to the Avengers and Justice League. However, following the invasion of the Vyram the organisation was reactivated with a new charter.

Chief Anderson is the administrative, strategic and military head of Sky Watch. He was responsible for gathering, training and dispatching the Sky Force team. While he will be the first to admit that he had to use some unsavoury methods to gain their cooperation, he is also highly protective of his team, regularly going beyond the call of duty to rescue Joe from the criminal messes he stumbles into. He is technically Mickey's legal guardian, Kelly's investor and Tiny's employer; Mark's commanding officer and Joe's bail bonder.

Dr Thadeus Keene is the lead scientist of Sky Watch usually found in his laboratory on board Sky Base. He is responsible for creating many of the Rangers' weapon and Zords, creating both the Spartan System and the Jet Zords. He has perhaps the best understanding of technology from the Vyram Dimension, although even he will admit that much of the science behind their technology escapes him. His understanding of Birdionic Radiation makes him an indispensible expert to Sky Swatch as the Chief Scientific Adviser and to the Sky Force Project.

Dr Keene was one of the scientists present during the ill-fated energy exploration that unleashed the Vyram. While he will not admit it the incident affected him both mentally and physically.

Zark-7 is an administrative droid created by Dr Keene to help monitor and control the Rangers' powers. As a machine he is typically on duty 24/7 and runs the monitoring station when there is no active threat. Zark-7 technically outranks the majority of personnel on the Sky Base and has the ability to override the commands of senior officers if he computes the survival of Sky Base is threatened. Within the Sky Watch chain of command he is designated as one of the few authorities the Sky Force Ranger have to listen to.

Zark-7 is the seventh generation of technology used in the creation of such droids. Despite his appearance he is more advanced than the computers running Sky Base.

Rover-1 is a creation of Dr Keene. Despite being modelled on a dog, Rover-1 contains some of the most advanced electronics uncovered by Sky Watch. He is more advanced than Skybase's cantral computer. Despite being a simple experiment into artificial intelligence, Rover-1 is also equipped to detect high levels of the Birdionic Radiation that allows humans to utilise Sky Force technology.

ZORDS

Note: The term Zords came from a database entry discovered by Doctor Keene and his associates.

Jet Zords

Developed by Doctor Keene based upon his limited understanding of Birdionic Energy and the alien technology of the Vyram.

Hawk Jet Zord Condor Jet Zord Swan Jet Zord Swallow Jet Zord – Owl Jet Zord

Sky Force Megazord

Garuda Zord

Mega Garudazord

The combination of the Garuda Zord and the Jet Megazord. In jet mode it can unleash the Firebird attack, in which the jet transforms into a destructive flaming fire. In Megazord mode it can unleash a single energy blast combining the Birdionic Energy of all five Rangers. Both attacks drain the Rangers and their machines.

The Birdionic Zords (Bird Zords)

Following their discovery of new knowledge about their powers, the Sky Force Rangers were able to evolve their Jet Zords into more advanced forms. Their new forms were dubbed Birdionic Zords by Doctor Keene, and called the Bird Zords by the team.

Red Hawk Zord

The Red Hawk Zord swoops from the sky to vanquish the Vyram menace. With Red Hawk at the controls its claws can rip an enemy to shreds.

Black Condor Zord

The powerful Zord of the Black Condor Ranger. The Black Condor Zord can fire projectiles from its wings and energy rays from its eyes.

Pink Swan Zord

Perhaps the slowest of the Zords, the Swan Zord is also the most heavily protected, capable of summoning two bird rocket launch systems to its sides.

Blue Swallow Zord

The Blue Swallow Zord is extremely fast and agile. It can change course in an instant. At full speed its beak can tear through reinforced concrete.

Yellow Owl Zord

Just like its pilot, the Owl Zord is incredible strong and agile. It can carry tremendous loads and launch them at an opponent. Its visual sensors are the most sensitive of the Zords.

Birdionic Megazord

The combined form of the Red Hawk, Black Condor, Pink Swan, Blue Swallow and Yellow Owl Zords. It is capable of deploying the weapons from the Pink Swan Zord and uses an energy blade formed by the Blue Swallow Zord.

White Eagle Zord

Mega Eagle Sky Zord

The combined form of the White Eagle Zord and the Birdionic Megazord.

Green Falcon Zord

Mega Falcon Sky Zord

The bulky form of the Green Falcon Birdionic Zord and the Birdionic Megazord.

Gold Garuda Zord

The Garuda Zord was originally the property of Dan. Despite initial belief that originated in the Vyram Dimension, Dan later explained that the technology had been created by the Vyram's previous victims in the hope of protecting their world. They failed, but the Garuda survived.

VILLAINS

The Vyram Empire exists far from Earth. They are masters of the red flag operation, making it appear to those watching that they are responding to a hostile invasion while they secretly are the ones coordinating such an incursion. The Vyram's latest conquest was a world with a dimensional warpgate that connected it to Earth. To enable their expansion to Earth, a world they considered fit for plunder, they tricked world leaders with promises of a bountiful supply of clean energy, not revealing that to access such energy would pierce the barrier between worlds and allow them access to the planet. When the humans unwittingly piered the barrier, the Vyram declared that they have been invaded and launched a decisive counter attack, proclaiming themselves gods over the primitive planet.

Lukan is the leader of the Vyram invasion.

Katse is the son of the Vyram ruler sent to Earth to help lead the invasion forces. Despite his birthright he is considered to have equal power Lukan and Marranox. Katse is still young and his immaturity shows in the monster he creates to aid the invasion.

Marranox is a key lieutenant in the Vyram hierarchy with special responsibility over their human recruits. Before she was a Vyram she had been on Skybase at the time of the energy extraction incident. She was captured by the Vyram and transformed into something new. Marranox is a human infected by the Vyram virus and transformed into a hybrid lifeform.

Corvus was a test subject for one of Doctor Keene's early experiments with extra-dimensional energy. Unfortunately that experiment had been conducted at the start of the Vyram invasion and Corvus was infected by the Vyram virus and turned into one of their servants. Corvus possesses many of the abilities and powers shared by the Sky Force Rangers. His armoured form is a result of the virus which altered not only the man, but the suit he was wearing. For a long time this allowed Corvus to fight off multiple Rangers at the same time. However, when the Rangers gained their armoured forms, Corvus found that his ability to fight them also diminished. Corvus possesses a Megazord type mecha that he can use against the Birdionic Megazord and later the Mega Jet Zord. It was destroyed by the Mega Garudazord.

Vorak are the footsoldiers of the Vyram. As natives of the Vyram Dimension, they are stronger and fast than most humans. They are also difficult to kill and resistant to bullets.

Spectrans are human supplicants who pledged loyalty to the Vyram in the belief they would be spared by their new gods when the aliens won the war. Many are former members of Skybase who were corrupted when the Vyram entered the human world. As Spectrans they enjoy enhanced strength and abilities. Their suits make them resistant to most weapons although blades can pierce their protection... Their exposed chins make a tempting and effective target.
